Echoes of Nature (EON) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to environmental education.
Introduction
Echoes of Nature (EON) connects communities to nature through multi-sensory teaching techniques, equipping individuals with the knowledge and skills to become better stewards of Maryland’s natural resources.
We are dedicated to helping people of all ages understand, appreciate, and care for Maryland’s wildlife and natural environment, as well as ecosystems around the world.
Who we are
Echoes of Nature (EON) was co-founded in 2002 by Echo and Michael, bringing together over 50 years of combined experience in designing educational programs that raise awareness of Maryland's wildlife and habitats.
Michael: Co-founder, Executive Director (22+ years experience)
Echo: Co-founder, Director of Education, Lead Instructor (32+ years experience)
Supported by dedicated staff, EON cares for over 100 animal ambassadors, including mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates, which play a vital role in our educational initiatives.
Mission Core
EON’s guiding principles are defined as "ECHOES"
Education: We educate the public (especially children) about natural sciences and wildlife.
Conservation: Our rescued animal ambassadors highlight conservation needs.
Health: We inspire outdoor exploration to promote healthy lifestyles.
Outreach: Our programs reach diverse communities across Maryland.
Enrichment: Direct interactions with live animals spark lifelong connections to nature.
Stewardship: We emphasize the importance of protecting Maryland’s diverse habitats and global ecosystems.
What Makes Us Unique?
Echoes of Nature (EON) focuses on native species, public education, and engagement. The Chesapeake Bay and its greater watershed area are central to our educational efforts. We also highlight global ecosystems, promoting awareness of diverse species, and natural processes while emphasizing the human role in environmental stability.
Our Programs
Our programs encourage critical thinking and inspire interest in science, math, literature, and art, offering children and adults meaningful, hands-on connections with nature.
Program Goal: To make a “LASTing” impression—Learning, Appreciation, Stewardship, Treasured memories—about wildlife and the natural world.
